Preserve
Help protect biblical and historical materials from loss, deterioration, neglect, and the disappearance of their surrounding context.
Aurora Biblical Archives is an Arizona nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, documenting, researching, digitizing, and sharing biblical and historical materials and the stories connected to them.
Our work brings together archival preservation, history, archaeology, cartography and GIS, provenance research, digitization, and education.
Important materials can become scattered, forgotten, inaccessible, poorly documented, or separated from the context that gives them meaning.
Aurora Biblical Archives exists to help find those materials, preserve them, document their context, study the questions surrounding them, and make their stories easier to discover.
We are especially interested in biblical documentary heritage and the wider historical world around it: manuscripts, historical Bibles, maps, archaeological records, rare books, photographs, inscriptions, archival records, and related primary sources.
Preservation is the beginning, not the end. A source becomes more useful when its physical survival, context, history, relationships, and questions are documented together.
Help protect biblical and historical materials from loss, deterioration, neglect, and the disappearance of their surrounding context.
Record provenance, condition, ownership history, inscriptions, relationships, locations, and other evidence that helps a source retain its story.
Follow questions through archival, historical, biblical, archaeological, geographic, and interdisciplinary research.
Share preserved materials, research, guidance, maps, and educational resources in ways that make the past more accessible.
Aurora Biblical Archives does not need every question to have a settled answer before it is worth preserving the source that raises it.
We will be careful with what we claim, curious about what we do not yet understand, and respectful of the materials and traditions that bring people to these questions in the first place.
Sometimes an old story turns out to point toward something real. Sometimes it does not. Either way, preserving the source and understanding why people remembered it can be valuable.
Aurora Biblical Archives is developing its collections, research, preservation resources, and public access work while beginning with practical projects that help identify and protect material that might otherwise be lost.
Our active discovery project invites families, churches, organizations, and other custodians to tell us about historic Bibles and related materials so their provenance, condition, and stories can be documented.
Source-attributed preventive guidance helps owners make safer first decisions when they encounter older or fragile books, manuscripts, records, photographs, and related materials.
Our broader work connects archival description, provenance, historical research, archaeology, maps, cartography, GIS, and digitization to preserve both sources and the context surrounding them.
Whether the starting point is an old Bible, a map, a record, a place, or an unanswered question, preserving what survives gives future research somewhere to begin.
